Using Essential Oils Safely

essential-oilsThe following advice is to try and keep you safe and well.

  • Never apply to skin neat, always dilute with a carrier oil
  • Do not take internally
  • Avoid using essential oils during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or on babies, children, elderly people unless you are a qualified Aromatherapist
  • Do not use in epilepsy, high blood pressure, asthma, hayfever, allergic conditions or any contraindications
  • Seek professional advice if your are taking medication (Medical Doctor)
  • Before using essential oils, it is advisable to preform a skin test to check for sensitivity.  Make up your blend and rub a little oil inside the wrist or elbow.  Leave uncovered for up to 24 hours, then wash off
  • Do not use essential oils under the influence of alcohol or drugs

The recommended safe quantity is 1 drop of essential oil to 5 mls of carrier oil/cream/bubble bath etc.
